Roundtable Discussion: The Revised European Consensus On Development: Milestones In The Implementation Of The Agenda 2030 And The Role Of Eu Member-States


In view of the launch of the adoption for a New European Consensus on Development in 2017 as a strong policy statement, over 20 ENoP member organizations from over 10 EU member states were represented in the roundtable discussion organized by ENoP in order to further push dialogue perspectives with the EU institutions.

Topics of discussion were mostly linked to the context of the Agenda 2030, including active promotion of a coherent development policy, paying significant attention to SDGs across the EU. Different proposals were also expressed regarding feasible ways to tackle poverty, migration and humanitarian challenges or gender equality issues, taking into account the added value and considerable contribution of political foundations and other civil society’s organizations. Among the speakers, ENoP’s Coordinator Dr. Uwe Optenhögel, Research Associate on Multinational Development Policy Dialogue Luis Blanco, GLOBAL 5 member ‐ Development Cooperation Coordination at the European External Action Service Eva Corral, ENoP’s Advisory Board member and Former Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany  Gudrun Kopp, acting Director of DG DEVCO (International Cooperation and Development policy), Head of Unit A1 of DG DEVCO of the European Commission Gaspar Frontini highlighted the fact that the consensus consists a tool itself for better coordination between the Union and its member states due to its integrated character and the links with peace and security strategies.
