The Eduardo Frei Foundation (EFF) is the foundation for international solidarity, founded by the Dutch Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) in 1990. The foundation was named after Eduardo Frei, who was one of the founders of the Christian Democratic Party of Chile (Partido Democrata Cristiano) and president of Chile from 1964 to 1970. Eduardo Frei has become a symbol for the development of democracy, the maintenance of respect for human rights and social justice.
Since 1990, the EFF has carried out hundreds of projects on behalf of the development of democracy in Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Caucasus. Since 2011, the EFF started organizing projects in the MENA region as well.
With its work, the EFF pursuits the following goals:
- To promote Christian Democratic thinking and knowledge in the field of international cooperation in general and in the field of development and human rights in particular;
- To stimulate the conscious involvement of members and affiliated organizations of the CDA in the mentioned field;
- To initiate and support projects, which are aimed at promoting Christian Democratic principles, especially in Central and Eastern Europe and in the Middle East and North Africa region.
