SUMMARY:Equality and Inclusion Workshop for Local Opinion Leaders
DESCRIPTION:From 17 to 20 October 2026\, 64 participants from across Kenya will gather in Nakuru for the Equality and Inclusion Workshop for Local Opinion Leaders\, an initiative designed to assess progress in strengthening women’s and youth participation in political and democratic processes. \nImplemented by the Kenya Parliamentary Human Rights Association (KEPHRA)\, with Green Forum Sweden as co-signatory organisation\, the workshop forms part of the EU-funded WYDE Political Parties project\, led by the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP). \nThe event builds on the 2025 Training of Trainers (ToT) programme\, which engaged local leaders across 27 Kenyan counties to strengthen their capacities in democratic participation\, political engagement and decision-making. Following this initial training\, participants carried out local-level activities and mentorship initiatives aimed at supporting women and young people in their communities. \nThe upcoming workshop will bring together 54 trainers representing the 27 counties\, alongside 10 beneficiaries of local-level trainings\, providing an opportunity to examine how these activities have translated into practical changes in knowledge\, confidence\, leadership and political participation. \nThrough facilitated discussions\, experience-sharing and collective reflection\, participants will identify achievements\, challenges and remaining capacity gaps. Particular attention will be given to documenting personal experiences and success stories\, as well as understanding what additional support may be needed to sustain and strengthen local political engagement. \nThe workshop will also include assessments and an impact review to inform future programme activities. Findings and recommendations will contribute to identifying priorities for continued support ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Elections\, when meaningful participation by women and young people will be particularly important. \nBeyond evaluating past activities\, the gathering offers an opportunity to reconnect local leaders\, strengthen peer learning and recognise the role they play in encouraging more inclusive democratic participation within their communities. \nThrough initiatives such as this\, WYDE Political Parties continues to support women’s and youth political leadership\, strengthen grassroots engagement and promote more inclusive democratic processes across Kenya. \nEvent Details\n\nEvent: Equality and Inclusion Workshop for Local Opinion Leaders\nDates: 17–20 October 2026\nLocation: Nakuru\, Kenya\nImplemented by: Kenya Parliamentary Human Rights Association (KEPHRA)\nCo-signatory organisation: Green Forum Sweden\nProject: WYDE Political Parties – led by ENoP and funded by the European Union\nParticipants: 64 participants\, including 54 Trainers of Trainers from 27 counties and 10 beneficiaries of local-level trainings\nMain topics: Equality and inclusion\, women’s and youth political participation\, local leadership\, democratic engagement\, mentorship and impact assessment\nExpected outcomes: Documentation of programme achievements\, success stories\, challenges and recommendations to inform continued support ahead of the 2027 General Elections.\n\n

SUMMARY:Preparing Political Parties for Kenya’s 2027 General Elections
DESCRIPTION:Strengthening Compliance\, Readiness and Democratic Participation\nOn 7–8 October 2026\, political parties and key electoral institutions will gather in Nairobi\, Kenya\, for a two-day WYDE Political Parties event focused on “Preparing Political Parties for the 2027 General Elections: Strengthening Compliance\, Election Readiness and Democratic Participation.” \nDesigned and implemented by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) as part of the WYDE Political Parties project\, led by the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP) and funded by the European Union\, the event will provide a platform for political parties and electoral stakeholders to identify priorities\, responsibilities and practical steps towards credible\, peaceful and inclusive elections in August 2027. \nWith the next General Elections approaching\, early preparation by political parties will be essential across multiple areas — from statutory compliance and internal party governance to candidate nominations\, electoral integrity and responsible campaigning. The programme will therefore bring together political parties with key institutions involved in Kenya’s electoral and political party framework\, including the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP)\, the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). \nThe first day will focus on strengthening political party preparedness and governance. Participants will examine statutory and regulatory requirements related to party governance\, membership and financial reporting\, while identifying priority compliance actions ahead of 2027. Discussions will also address coalition formation\, internal party democracy\, participatory decision-making\, candidate selection and the management of internal disputes. \nA further focus will be placed on inter-party dialogue and peaceful political competition. Through exchanges facilitated by PPLC and a high-level dialogue on the challenges parties foresee ahead of the elections\, participants will explore consensus-building\, political tolerance\, dispute prevention and lessons from previous electoral cycles. The discussions will provide an opportunity to identify preparedness gaps and areas where institutional and inter-party support can contribute to stronger electoral processes. \nOn the second day\, attention will turn to the electoral roadmap towards August 2027. Sessions led by IEBC will examine key milestones in the electoral cycle\, candidate nomination procedures and regulations\, party primaries\, nomination disputes\, election technology and the roles and responsibilities of political party agents. \nThe programme will also address some of the challenges that can undermine public confidence in elections\, including electoral violence\, hate speech\, misinformation and disinformation. Participants will discuss responsible political communication and campaigning and consider how political parties can contribute to a more peaceful and trustworthy electoral environment. \nA joint ORPP–PPLC–IEBC engagement will then explore how these institutions can coordinate information\, guidance and support to political parties throughout the 2026–2027 electoral cycle. This institutional dialogue will help connect regulatory requirements and electoral preparations with the practical challenges political parties face as they prepare for nominations and elections. \nThe two-day meeting will culminate in the presentation and adoption of a Political Parties’ Preparatory Roadmap towards the August 2027 General Elections. The roadmap will identify key priorities\, actions\, timelines and areas of responsibility\, providing a framework for continued party preparedness over the months ahead. \nThrough initiatives such as this\, WYDE Political Parties supports stronger democratic institutions and political parties\, while fostering dialogue\, cooperation and inclusive participation within democratic processes. \n\nEvent Details\nEvent: Preparing Political Parties for the 2027 General Elections\nTheme: Strengthening Compliance\, Election Readiness and Democratic Participation\nDates: November 2026 (PTC exact dates)\nLocation: Boulevard Hotel / Ole Sereni\, Nairobi\, Kenya\nDesigned and implemented by: Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS)\nProject: WYDE Political Parties – led by ENoP and funded by the European Union\nKey stakeholders: Political parties\, ORPP\, PPLC\, IEBC\, KAS\, ENoP and the European Union Delegation\nMain topics: Political party compliance\, internal party democracy\, coalition formation\, electoral preparedness\, candidate nominations\, electoral integrity\, responsible campaigning\, inter-party dialogue and peaceful political competition
