SUMMARY:Preparing Political Parties for Kenya’s 2027 General Elections
DESCRIPTION:Strengthening Compliance\, Readiness and Democratic Participation\nOn 7–8 October 2026\, political parties and key electoral institutions will gather in Nairobi\, Kenya\, for a two-day WYDE Political Parties event focused on “Preparing Political Parties for the 2027 General Elections: Strengthening Compliance\, Election Readiness and Democratic Participation.” \nDesigned and implemented by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) as part of the WYDE Political Parties project\, led by the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP) and funded by the European Union\, the event will provide a platform for political parties and electoral stakeholders to identify priorities\, responsibilities and practical steps towards credible\, peaceful and inclusive elections in August 2027. \nWith the next General Elections approaching\, early preparation by political parties will be essential across multiple areas — from statutory compliance and internal party governance to candidate nominations\, electoral integrity and responsible campaigning. The programme will therefore bring together political parties with key institutions involved in Kenya’s electoral and political party framework\, including the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP)\, the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). \nThe first day will focus on strengthening political party preparedness and governance. Participants will examine statutory and regulatory requirements related to party governance\, membership and financial reporting\, while identifying priority compliance actions ahead of 2027. Discussions will also address coalition formation\, internal party democracy\, participatory decision-making\, candidate selection and the management of internal disputes. \nA further focus will be placed on inter-party dialogue and peaceful political competition. Through exchanges facilitated by PPLC and a high-level dialogue on the challenges parties foresee ahead of the elections\, participants will explore consensus-building\, political tolerance\, dispute prevention and lessons from previous electoral cycles. The discussions will provide an opportunity to identify preparedness gaps and areas where institutional and inter-party support can contribute to stronger electoral processes. \nOn the second day\, attention will turn to the electoral roadmap towards August 2027. Sessions led by IEBC will examine key milestones in the electoral cycle\, candidate nomination procedures and regulations\, party primaries\, nomination disputes\, election technology and the roles and responsibilities of political party agents. \nThe programme will also address some of the challenges that can undermine public confidence in elections\, including electoral violence\, hate speech\, misinformation and disinformation. Participants will discuss responsible political communication and campaigning and consider how political parties can contribute to a more peaceful and trustworthy electoral environment. \nA joint ORPP–PPLC–IEBC engagement will then explore how these institutions can coordinate information\, guidance and support to political parties throughout the 2026–2027 electoral cycle. This institutional dialogue will help connect regulatory requirements and electoral preparations with the practical challenges political parties face as they prepare for nominations and elections. \nThe two-day meeting will culminate in the presentation and adoption of a Political Parties’ Preparatory Roadmap towards the August 2027 General Elections. The roadmap will identify key priorities\, actions\, timelines and areas of responsibility\, providing a framework for continued party preparedness over the months ahead. \nThrough initiatives such as this\, WYDE Political Parties supports stronger democratic institutions and political parties\, while fostering dialogue\, cooperation and inclusive participation within democratic processes. \n\nEvent Details\nEvent: Preparing Political Parties for the 2027 General Elections\nTheme: Strengthening Compliance\, Election Readiness and Democratic Participation\nDates: November 2026 (PTC exact dates)\nLocation: Boulevard Hotel / Ole Sereni\, Nairobi\, Kenya\nDesigned and implemented by: Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS)\nProject: WYDE Political Parties – led by ENoP and funded by the European Union\nKey stakeholders: Political parties\, ORPP\, PPLC\, IEBC\, KAS\, ENoP and the European Union Delegation\nMain topics: Political party compliance\, internal party democracy\, coalition formation\, electoral preparedness\, candidate nominations\, electoral integrity\, responsible campaigning\, inter-party dialogue and peaceful political competition

SUMMARY:Navigating the Ballot: Advanced Political Strategy for Women and Youth
DESCRIPTION:In November 2026\, The Oslo Center (TOC) will launch “Navigating the Ballot: Advanced Political Strategy for Women and Youth”\, a training and mentorship initiative designed to strengthen the electoral preparedness of aspiring women and young political leaders in Kenya. \nThe programme forms part of WYDE Political Parties\, led by the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP) and funded by the European Union. \nAs Kenya prepares for its next parliamentary elections\, women and young people continue to face significant challenges in accessing political leadership and competing effectively for elected office. Beyond formal eligibility\, aspiring candidates must navigate complex party structures\, nomination processes\, campaign financing and the practical demands of electoral competition. \nThe initiative aims to address these challenges by providing practical political strategy training tailored to women and youth parliamentary aspirants from different political parties. \nParticipants will explore how to navigate internal party dynamics and secure nominations\, identify influential actors through political power mapping\, and develop financially sustainable campaign strategies. \nThe programme will also focus on issue-based leadership\, political storytelling\, candidate branding and voter mobilisation\, helping participants develop campaign approaches that connect with their communities and respond to voters’ priorities. \nA distinctive feature of the initiative is its emphasis on experiential and peer learning. Rather than focusing exclusively on theoretical knowledge\, participants will work with practical tools and exercises that can be adapted to their own political and electoral contexts. \nThe training will be complemented by a structured mentorship component\, connecting aspiring candidates with experienced politicians. Through facilitated exchanges and interactive fishbowl dialogues\, participants will have opportunities to discuss the realities of political campaigning\, public scrutiny\, resilience\, ethical leadership and the challenges of navigating party politics. \nBy combining strategic preparation\, practical learning and mentorship\, the programme seeks to strengthen the ability of women and young candidates to compete effectively for parliamentary seats. \nThrough initiatives such as this\, WYDE Political Parties continues to support more inclusive political participation by helping emerging leaders move beyond political engagement towards meaningful opportunities for elected representation. \n  \n\nEvent Details \n\nActivity: Navigating the Ballot: Advanced Political Strategy for Women and Youth\nPeriod: November 2026\nLocation: Kenya\nImplemented by: The Oslo Center (TOC)\nProject: WYDE Political Parties – led by ENoP and funded by the European Union\nTarget participants: Women and youth aspiring to parliamentary office from different political parties\nFormat: Multiparty residential training\, practical exercises\, peer learning and structured mentorship\nMain topics: Electoral strategy\, party nominations\, political power mapping\, campaign financing\, candidate branding\, voter mobilisation and political mentorship\nMain objective: Strengthen the electoral competitiveness and preparedness of women and young parliamentary candidates.
