“Women Should Not Wait to Be Invited to the Table”: Kouadio Aurélie Fatima on Education, Courage and the Future of Leadership

Kouadio Aurélie Fatima is part of a new generation of political voices rising in Côte d’Ivoire. A generation that doesn’t wait for change but works to build it—day by day, conversation by conversation.

When you ask her what must change in her country, her answer is direct:

“Our country must make education and youth its top priority.”

In a society where more than 70% of the population is under 30, she believes that real transformation starts in classrooms, training centres and universities—and in the belief that every young person deserves the chance to contribute.

“In the age of the Internet and AI, our literacy rate should be close to 100%,” she says. “Education must prepare young people for professional life and entrepreneurship. That work begins early—instilling the values of work and adapting curricula to emerging sectors.”

But Aurélie doesn’t just talk about education in abstract terms. Her political vision includes concrete reforms: progressive policies, public-private collaboration and new frameworks to make equality real and measurable. “I am committed to driving this change,” she says.

As a woman in politics, she knows that stepping forward is rarely easy. Yet she insists that leadership is as much about integrity as ambition.

“For me, leadership starts with listening—understanding the needs and aspirations of your community. Acting with integrity. Leading by example.”

Even when the path seems uncertain, Aurélie finds motivation in a simple conviction: that representation matters, and that the presence of more women in politics is not just a matter of fairness—it’s the cornerstone of democratic legitimacy.

“We are 50% of the population,” she reminds us. “Our voices belong at the table.”

If she could send a message to her peers across Africa, it would be this:

“Do not be afraid. Do not let intimidation or old norms hold you back. Your voice matters. Without your drive, there is no change. Dare to take that step.”

When asked what her dream is for Côte d’Ivoire ten years from now, she envisions a country transformed:

“A thriving economy powered by education.
Shared parental leave.
Childcare for working mothers.
Laws mandating gender parity in government.
And a Côte d’Ivoire that shines as a leader of African integration and cooperation.”

It’s a vision that feels both ambitious and possible—and one that reflects the spirit of women across the continent who are already shaping tomorrow’s democracy.

Kouadio Aurélie Fatima is a young political leader from Côte d’Ivoire committed to advancing education, gender equality and inclusive leadership. She is actively engaged in building dialogue and advocating for policies that give women and youth the power to drive lasting change.
