WYDE Political Parties is pleased to officially launch its Youth Advisory Board (YAB), a new platform bringing together young political actors and civic leaders from across Africa to strengthen youth perspectives within the project’s advocacy, communication and democratic engagement efforts.

The YAB aims to create meaningful spaces for exchange between young political practitioners and the wider democracy support community, while ensuring that the lived experiences, challenges and aspirations of young people remain connected to ongoing discussions on political participation and party reform.

The members of the Board come from diverse political, civic and organisational backgrounds and have previously participated in different WYDE Political Parties activities and programmes.

The first members of the WYDE Political Parties Youth Advisory Board are:

  • Nelson Agaba (Uganda) – National Youth League Coordinator, Alliance for National Transformation Party (ANT)
  • Marie-Leopoldine Tossou (Côte d’Ivoire) – President, ONG YEBLE
  • Fredrick Makaho (Kenya) – Young aspiring political leader
  • Jonas Joaquim Mulato (Angola) – National Secretary for International Relations and Diaspora, UNITA
  • Alangua Behira Benedicte Koffi (Côte d’Ivoire) – Programme Officer and Treasurer, RENAFEL-CI / Friedrich Naumann Foundation

  • Ghaëls Mbaye (Senegal) – Human Rights Expert and Activist
  • Karen Anyona (Kenya) – Civic Leader | Entrepreneur | African Systems & Economic Transformation Advocate
  • Kelvin Quartey (Ghana) – Youth Leader, Entrepreneur and Communications Strategist.

The Youth Advisory Board will serve as a flexible and collaborative space through which members can contribute ideas, perspectives and feedback on issues related to youth political participation, democratic inclusion and political party engagement.

Through interviews, events, advocacy activities and ongoing exchanges, the YAB will also help amplify the voices and experiences of young political actors working across different national and political contexts.

The first participation of YAB members already took place this week in Warsaw during the Political Party Peer Network Conference organised by ODIHR/OSCE, where Agnes Gachui Kariuki and Nelson Agaba joined discussions on youth political participation and democratic inclusion alongside representatives from international democracy support organisations and political actors from across the OSCE region.
