On 21 July 2026, emerging political leaders gathered in Accra, Ghana, for the third and final session of the EU WYDE Mentorship Breakfast Series, centred on “Speaking with Influence: Public Speaking, Parliamentary Communication, and Policy Writing.” Organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ghana Office within the framework of the WYDE Political Parties project, led by the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP) and funded by the European Union, the session brought together participants for a final opportunity to strengthen the communication skills essential for effective democratic leadership.

Building on three residential trainings and two previous mentorship breakfasts, the final session focused on one of the most critical aspects of political leadership: the ability to communicate ideas with confidence, clarity and purpose. Responding directly to participants’ feedback, the programme provided practical tools to strengthen public speaking, parliamentary communication and policy writing, equipping young leaders to engage more effectively in political and governance processes.

The day began with a graduation breakfast celebrating the participants’ journey through the WYDE programme before moving into a series of interactive mentoring circles led by experienced practitioners from academia, politics and diplomacy. Through small-group discussions, participants explored effective parliamentary communication, policy writing techniques and strategies for delivering persuasive public speeches.

A strong emphasis was placed on experiential learning. Participants rotated through mentoring circles, took part in interpersonal communication case studies and role-play exercises, and practised delivering leadership addresses before receiving constructive feedback from mentors and peers. These practical exercises created a supportive environment where participants could build confidence, refine their communication style and strengthen their ability to engage respectfully and persuasively with different audiences.

Throughout the session, the atmosphere reflected the collaborative spirit that has characterised the WYDE programme from the beginning. Active participation, thoughtful discussion and mutual encouragement underscored the value of peer learning and mentorship in developing a new generation of democratic leaders. Beyond improving technical communication skills, the session reinforced participants’ confidence to articulate ideas, engage in constructive debate and communicate effectively across political and institutional settings.

As the final mentorship breakfast of the series, the event also marked the conclusion of a broader leadership journey that combined residential trainings, mentorship and practical learning experiences. Together, these activities have equipped participants with a comprehensive set of leadership competencies, ranging from advocacy and policy engagement to public communication and parliamentary practice.

Through initiatives such as this, the WYDE Political Parties project continues to support democratic development by strengthening political leadership, promoting youth participation in politics and fostering dialogue, knowledge exchange and cooperation between political actors across regions.
